Hearing the house ringing with laughter makes us so happy. It’s one of the many reasons we love opening our home to couples on their special days and helping them celebrate their country house weddings in style. Catherine and Michael’s beautiful day was one of our favourites from last year – the ballroom echoed with happy chatter and the odd shriek of ‘can’t hold it in anymore’ laughter over dinner. It was a joy to hear every time I walked past. The couple got married at a local church before travelling to Penton Park in a classic car. Catherine looked amazing in her lace dress, and we were really pleased to hear it came from Sass and Grace – one of our absolute favourite boutiques in the area. We want all our couples to feel at home at Penton Park. The house is yours to make your own – it’s a luxury wedding venue that’s at once elegant and comfortable. Catherine and Michael’s warm and heartfelt décor throughout really gave the house an ambience that was personal to them. They covered the surfaces in candles for a warm, cosy light, and included framed family photographs on the mantels and occasional tables. The vibrant flowers were arranged by Michael’s talented aunt who is a retired florist, and a bit of a legend. She jetted back from Mongolia a couple of days before the wedding (as you do) and styled the florals to perfection in the bouquets and in vases through the house. Smallpiece catering (one of our recommended suppliers) made the delicious wedding cake. They worked closely with the couple to recreate a popular recipe from the groom’s childhood for one of the tiers - chocolate sponge with peppermint cream icing. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Any chance of the recipe, Michael? We absolutely loved welcoming Michael, Catherine and their friends and families into our home, and these gorgeous images from Lydia Stamps have given us a brilliant walk down memory lane.
