We are often asked why we have a preferred supplier list for caterers here at Penton Park, our country house wedding venue in Hampshire, and this is a set up most couples will be familiar with if you have begun the journey of searching for a wedding venue. So we thought we would take 5 minutes out to explain the reasons for the decision and give you the wedding venue perspective behind the reason for the decision!
Kalm Kitchen's delicious cheese station laid out in the most beautiful arrangement - feasting not just for the stomach but for the eyes aswell!
When we first opened our home as a wedding venue, we thought long and hard about how much of the "industry standard" we should follow, and to this day we constantly question if the "normal" is the right way to do things (we have recently made the decision to put all of our brochure details on line and make the content downloadable without you needing to give us your email... this really is not the norm in the UK but we think it makes so much more sense).
Having preferred partners for catering was one of the key industry standards that we really did discuss and consider in detail. Yet we stand by our decision that this is so critical and real life experiences from the situations like this really sad case of Salmonella poising reassure us that our constant quality control checks, regular meetings, onsite visits and checks of all insurance documents and food hygiene standards are important and necessary.

Your catering team are a huge reflection on your entire day, and having a preferred list means we have tried and tested the caterers thoroughly before you ever meet them! We have hand picked small, boutique and outstanding caterers to make sure they have the high standard we expect and will look after you and your guests to a standard that is far beyond the normal.
We also thoroughly introduce the catering team to the house, will have carried out site inductions, seen up to date insurance certificates and built up excellent working relationships with the teams. So a preferred list ensures a more seamless, streamlined team to serve yourselves and all of your guests. It is our view that the catering team and the venue team are the most important individuals who will work together to deliver the day you've dreamed of.

There are quite a few wedding venues that have made the choice to have just one partner caterer, and whilst we can see the ease and comfort this brings to the venue, we don't feel this is the best for the couples considering where to book their unique wedding day, especially if you are considering somewhere exclusive, intimate and bespoke like Penton Park.
We therefore decided that having a choice of at least 3 caterers at any one time was the right approach... this offers you, our lovely couples, a selection of style, service and budgets. We are so proud of all of our caterers: Kalm Kitchen, The Little Kitchen Company, Smallpiece Catering and Bark N Render. If you are currently looking for catering for any event we can highly recommend the teams at these wonderful companies, from the personal service, attention to detail and delectable food, we know that you are in safe hands.
