Electricity
We have moved to Ecotricity who not only supply electricity soley from a renewable source they also make it themselves via windmills and sunmills across the UK. They focus on providing green energy and also creating a green and sustainable company which the UK can be proud of.
Milk
Next time you sip on a cup of tea or coffee when visiting you can be assured that all our milk comes from a local green grocer who pays a fair price to local dairy farms. The milk is delivered to the door on a route that’s as efficient as possible and arrives in glass bottles which are the reused, over and over and over… you get the picture!
Waste
Waste is a huge one for us and one that we are still tackling, so let’s break it down!
We partnered with Greenzone who specialise in providing a national recycling lead waste management service concentrating on providing a zero to landfill solution, using waste to energy as a solution wherever possible. We no longer use black bin liners but transport all waste where possible in hessian sacks sourced from a local coffee roaster. These are washable, durable and reusable.
All glass bottles from the bar (a significant part of our waste!) are put into hessian sacks and taken to our glass recycling bins which are on site and collected by Greenzone for recycling.
At present food waste created by the family goes straight into our compost bins for use on the allotment. We are planning to invest in an anaerobic biodigester which will be able to take all of the food waste from our weddings and create our own green energy on site.

Fires
Fires – these are a huge feature of Penton Park and ones that need a lot of fuel – we have 9 chimneys that get swept every year and often have at least 5-7 burning at the same time. Lots are sourced from our own trees when they need felling due to old age or disease, we have also partnered with a logging firm who deliver timber to us if they are felling in the local area. We’ve managed to reduce our coal use by 70% by increasing our log supply and this being our main fuel.
Cleaning
Even down to the little things we are as green as possible. The household cleaning is mainly carried out using household vinegar in recyclable packaging, with essential oils to provide fragrance. Our handsoaps in the bathrooms are all in glass bottles which we refill with environmentally friendly soap products.
And finally of course absolutely no plastic straws anywhere to be found!
If you have any suggestions for how we can look to be even more green in our approach, please do get in touch.
