If you have announced the date of your wedding then this probably means you have booked your venue. If you are the bride, along with the congratulations, you are probably receiving lots of advice on how to find your perfect dress. Some of it may be useful but some of it may seem like a total mystery to you. Comments like “You will just know when you put on the one” probably aren’t very helpful as it can fill a bride with a lot of uncertainty. How will you know when it’s the one? Will you ever find the one that gives you that elusive feeling that everyone talks about? So let’s give you some top tips on helping you make that all important dress decision.
Shop for your dress when you have booked your venue.
Sounds obvious but this will influence the style of your dress. If you have booked a beautiful country home venue like Penton Park then you may have decided to use their outdoor ceremony area in the summer or their indoor ceremony room with a roaring fire in the winter. Your dress choice for either of these options would be different as you think about the style and vibe you are trying to create for your day. Visit two to three good boutiques. Read online reviews and look for industry awards to know if they are a good boutique. Also check out their range of dresses to make sure they have styles you like, also check their price range and ensure you set yourself a budget for your dress. Ask some pretty important questions when you are there – Do they offer free storage for your dress? Do they oversee all the alterations? Where are your fittings held?
Keep an open mind and try on dresses outside your comfort zone.
Even if all this does is confirm you don’t want a dress of that style then all boxes need to be ticked before you commit to your dress. Also be honest with your bridal stylist, if there are parts of your body you don’t want to show off, and we all have them, then tell your stylist, a good stylist will know how to maximise your good bits and disguise the bits of you you don’t like as much. Don’t panic if you don’t get ‘the feeling’! Some of our brides are really pragmatic people and the thought of dissolving into tears because of a dress seems ludicrous to them! Similarly it is a really beautiful thing when a dress makes you look and feel a million dollars and you get an emotional reaction that you weren’t expecting.
